    Relationship Requirements

    You must be legally married to or in a civil partnership with a British citizen or a person settled in the UK. You must have been living together in a relationship for at least 2 years if not married or in a civil partnership. You must intend to live together permanently in the UK.

    Financial Requirements

    Your partner must meet a minimum income threshold, usually £18,600 per year. This threshold increases if you have children. Savings can be used to meet the financial requirement if the income threshold is not met

    Accommodation

    You must have adequate accommodation for you, your partner, and any dependents.

    English Language Requirement

    You must prove your knowledge of English by passing an approved English language test, having an academic qualification that was taught in English, or being from an English-speaking country.

    Genuine Relationship

    You need to provide evidence that your relationship is genuine, such as photographs, communication logs, joint financial responsibilities, and any other relevant documentation.

    Application Process

     Online Application

    Apply online on the UK government’s website. Pay the application fee (approximately £1,523 if applying from outside the UK).

    Documents Required

    Passport or valid travel ID.
    Proof of relationship (marriage or civil partnership certificate, or evidence of cohabitation).
    Financial evidence (bank statements, payslips, etc.).
    English language proficiency proof.
    Accommodation details.

    Biometrics

    Provide biometric information (fingerprints and a photo) at a visa application center.

    Healthcare Surcharge

    Pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS), which gives you access to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS).

    Processing Time

    Processing times can vary, but it usually takes around 12 weeks if applying from outside the UK and up to 8 weeks if applying from within the UK.

    Duration and Extensions

     A partner visa is initially granted for 2.5 years (30 months). You can apply to extend this visa for another 2.5 years. After 5 years on a partner visa, you may be eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR).
